At age 16 Dorothy joined the Challengers Drum and Bugle, a spin off junior corps of the Blackhawks Senior Drum and Bugle Corps from Kankakee, IL. She was the guard sergeant the first year and drum major the second and third seasons. In 1966 she joined the DesPlaines Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps where she marched in the sabre and flag lines.
Dorothy began teaching in 1971 and was part of the instructional staff for the National Champion White Tornadoes color guard from Momence, IL. In 1987 she began instructing the color guard at Central High School in Clifton, IL and has been there ever since. In addition, Dorothy has taught the guard at St Anne grade school from 2001 to 2003 and has been a member of the Chicago Royal-Airs color guard since 2002.
