Paul Zimny

Visual Caption Head/Visual Designer

Paul began marching in 1966 as a member of the McHenry Viscounts and then joined the horn line of the Chicago Royal-Airs in 1967. The following year he was promoted to drum major. After the "Big Blue" closed their doors in early 1969 Paul continued on in a few Midwest corps like the Norwood Park Imperials and Des Plaines Vanguard in the early 70's. Next, at the invitation of his brother John, Paul moved to California where he was appointed drum major for the Sacramento Freelancers in 1976 and 1977. After aging out Paul became the visual caption head and drill designer for the Freelancers, a position he held from 1978 until 1995. He has also written numerous marching band shows for high schools in the Sacramento area.

For the past 18 years Paul has been teaching and performing Ballroom Dance at his studio and at the American River College in Sacramento, CA. In addition to being the Royal-Airs visual caption head and drill designer since 2002, Paul has also served as drum major.
